چکیده
A. 2003. Comparison of krig-ing with external drift and regression-kriging. A generic framework for spatial prediction of soil variables based on regression-kriging. In further text, theory behind kriging with external drift and regression-kriging and differences between them are explained in more detail. We focus mainly on practical issues, i.e. how to derive predictions and prediction uncertainty. We also give a small case study where you can follow calculation of different elements. Use footnotes to obtain additional explanations. For an introduction to matrix algebra, read the general introductions in classical statistical books (Neter et al., 1996, §5). A detailed introduction to matrix algebra for KED can be found in Wackernagel (1998, appendix).

Spatiotemporal Kriging with External Drift
In statistics it is often assumed that sample observations are independent. But sometimes in practice, observations are somehow dependent on each other. Spatiotemporal data are dependent data which their correlation is due to their spatiotemporal locations.Spatiotemporal models arise whenever data are collected across bothtime and space. Therefore such models have to be analyzed in termsof thei...
متن کاملAn Extended Kriging Method to Interpolate Near-Surface Soil Moisture Data Measured by Wireless Sensor Networks
In the practice of interpolating near-surface soil moisture measured by a wireless sensor network (WSN) grid, traditional Kriging methods with auxiliary variables, such as Co-kriging and Kriging with external drift (KED), cannot achieve satisfactory results because of the heterogeneity of soil moisture and its low correlation with the auxiliary variables. This study developed an Extended Krigin...
متن کاملComparison of Geostatistical Methods for Estimating the Areal Average Climatological Rainfall Mean Using Data on Precipitation and Topography
The results of estimating the areal average climatological rainfall mean in the Guadalhorce river basin in southern Spain are presented in this paper. The classical Thiessen method and three different geostatistical approaches (ordinary kriging, cokriging and kriging with an external drift) have been used as estimators and their results are compared and discussed. The first two methods use only...
متن کاملUsing elevation to aid the geostatistical mapping of rainfall erosivity
This paper addresses the issue of incorporating a digital elevation model into the mapping of Ž . annual and monthly erosivity values in the Algarve region Portugal . Besides linear regression of erosivity against elevation, three geostatistical algorithms are introduced: simple kriging with Ž . Ž . varying local means SKlm , kriging with an external drift KED and colocated cokriging. Cross val...
متن کاملA Comparison of Kriging with Nonparametric Regression Methods
“Kriging” is the name of a parametric regression method used by hydrologists and mining engineers, among others. Features of the kriging approach are that it also provides an error estimate and that it can conveniently be employed also to estimate the integral of the regression function. In the present work, the kriging method is described and some of its statistical characteristics are explore...
